The Use of Blood Warmers in Preventing Hypothermia: Importance and Applications

The usage of blood warmer device ?

Blood/Infusion warmers are used to warm up refrigerated and room-temperature fluids that are being administrated to the patient.
Administration of cold fluids can cause the body temperature to drop.
The patient’s core body temperature decreases especially in 30 minutes from induction of anesthesia.
The low body temperature during surgery may result in hypothermia.

Overview. Hypothermia is a condition that occurs when core body temperature drops below 95 degrees Fahrenheit (35 degrees Celsius).  It is a medical emergency. In hypothermia , the body loses heat faster than it can produce heat, causing a dangerously low body temperature.

What are the complications of hypothermia?

Left untreated, hypothermia can cause the heart and respiratory system to fail and eventually can lead to death.

Other complication:

  • Cold diuresis.
  • Acute kidney injury.
  • Pulmonary edema.
